Year of Release: 2000
Directed by: Ryan DiGiorgi
Logan Lee
Writing Credits: Logan Lee (improvisations)
Ryan DiGiorgi (concept) Genre: Comedy / Holiday
Tagline: A Very Logan Christmas
Description: Sure, Christmas
time is fun, but it comes with its share of complications and headaches.
Dr. Logan travels the halls of Brentwood High and asks the students and
faculty what's been troubling them this December. Then he utilizes
his "Doctor of Christmas" know-how to banish their yuletide woes.
Background: Ryan was asked
to produce a five to seven minute holiday project for Channel 3 and
this is what he and Logan came up with. Letting Logan take point
while he filmed, the two produced a quite memorable Christmas classic.
Runtime: 7 minutes

Trivia
• Dr. Logan says he’s the Dr. Logan you’ll remember
from Blender Agenda, yet he lacks
the Dr. Logan costume. Is he the REAL Dr. Logan? We may never know.
• Logan almost slipped in a patch of ice during the intro. You
can see him glance down to avoid it before crossing to the table.
• Originally the shots of Dr. Logan rocking out to the Kinks’
“Father Christmas” (which were entirely improvised and accomplished
with one take) were going to be interspersed throughout the film, but
Ryan eventually decided to put it all in one big intermission chunk.
• During the intro, you can’t quite see what Dr. Logan bumps
into. It’s a plastic trash can.
• Ryan and Logan wandered around Brentwood High after hours for
quite some time trying to come up with an idea for a Christmas project.
Finally they decided on the interview format and Holiday Problems! was
born.
• The music faintly heard in the background of the interview with
Mrs. Hoogewind was caused by the camera accidentally picking up a radio
station. The problem was corrected for the other interviews.
• Hoogewind’s exam schedule can be seen on her blackboard.
Also visible is a chalk drawing of a smiley face with the word “funny”.
Unrelated to the film, but appropriate.
• Mrs. Hoogewind printed this picture
from Holiday Problems! and hung it on her classroom wall. It remains
there today.
• The scene of Dr. Logan mocking Ashley DeVault while she recounts
her problems is a nod to a bit Chevy Chase and Jane Curtain did on “Saturday
Night Live”. The bit where Dr. Logan attempts to check his watch
but realizes he doesn’t have one also appears in Dr.
Logan’s Day Out. Since we get asked frequently, Ashley was
indeed aware she was being ridiculed. We asked her to ramble on as long
as she could.
• Though Logan knew the questions he would be asked a few minutes
ahead of time, none of the interviews were rehearsed except the one
with Mr. Adams to produce a good ending.
• The Florida segment took the longest. Several version exist
as outtakes. Most of them ended with something inappropriate for television,
necessitating re-shoots.
• Although it was filmed for use on government access TV, it never
aired due to one joke being deemed inappropriate by Brentwood High School
teacher Mark Madison. When Larry asks Dr. Logan to help him with his
money troubles, Dr. Logan searches his pockets and is only able to produce
an empty plastic bag. This was perceived to be a drug reference, when
in fact, it was only intended to demonstrate how inept and unhelpful
Dr. Logan is. Ironically, Holiday Problems! was nominated for Best Short
Feature and Most Entertaining at the Second Annual Brentwood High School
Night at the Oscars. Unfortunately some other crap won.
• The pages of the master break-out plan that Dr. Logan shows
to Mr. Adams were actually the Lazy Bear bios that the Lazy Bear Players
filled out for use on this site. Check them out here.
• Logan and Ryan consider Mr. Adams’ wacky run-off at the
end of the film to be the funniest run-off ever.
• Larry used a pseudonym for fear of embarrassment. His real name
can be seen in the cast list on this page.
• Ms. Clark remarks that her holiday problem is finding a turkey
large enough to feed Coach Norris, a fellow BHS teacher. Logan and Ryan
tracked Norris down to get a response, but before they could even explain
the concept, he quite curtly declined saying he doesn’t do interviews.
• The word help is written backwards on the window behind Dr.
Logan during the closing.
• Logan cracks up at the very end because he thought Ryan would
never use that take. Ryan liked it and left it in.
• Holiday Problems! was responsible for getting David
Chilton, who portrayed David in Dr.
Love Strikes Out , to become a Kinks fan. He liked “Father
Christmas”, the Kinks song used over the opening and closing credits.
